What is this?
The upcoming decommissioning of traditional Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) lines by Openreach in 2027 is a once in a lifetime technological shift that will impact businesses across the United Kingdom.
2027 will see the biggest change to the telecoms industry in years as BT are committed to switching off the ISDN network. The UK’s current phone infrastructure is made up of two parts: fibre optic cables and old copper cables,
with the latter forming the ISDN network.
The ISDN network will be switched off in favour of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) systems. By making the switch to a VoIP system, you will benefit from more flexibility, better call quality and the ability to work from anywhere. There will also be more of a demand on your broadband however, meaning your usage will rise and you will need a stronger connection.
